Member of the Month! Shirley Houng
Swimming hasn't always been a passion for Shirley Houng. Growing up in Wisconsin, there were many winter sports that were a lot more popular than swimming! But after living in Colorado for more than 7 years she wanted a way to stay healthy and active without having to drive into the mountains. Shirley has some busy days for sure! She works as a veterinary technician in Aurora but also works three days a week as a lab assistant at the Colorado State Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Shirley swims at the FoCO swim club before making the commute back to Denver. The best part? Shirley had never swam a day in her life before joining the club! Through our Red Cross certified instructors, Shirley has gone from afraid of the water to an expert swimmer!
But that's something the club can say about a lot of members! We have taken many swimmers from first day to first place! What makes Shirley special is her commitment to the sport! She convinced the veterinary practice she works for, Parkside Animal Health Center, to sponsor an undeserved youth swimming club that Shirley helped create! Parkside donated funds to pay the membership fee of undeserved youth so they can experience the healthy benefits of exercise and competition. Because of Parkside, 10 young adults have learned to swim and stay healthy! Support the Parkside veterinary practice or become a member of the swim club today if you like what you're reading! Want to make an extra contribution to causes like the undeserved youth club? Make a note when you fill out the membership form.
